Thirteen Senegalese fishermen were Friday expelled from Mauritania for illegal fishing, a source said on Saturday in Nouakchott.The 13 were arrested in Nouadhibou, the economic capital, over the last few days, while fishing without any permit, the source said.
They were apprehended along with 15 other foreigners of different nationality for the same offence.
All those arrested were placed into custody at a police station in Nouakchott pending their deportation.
Under an agreement signed, Mauritania grants Senegal 400 artisanal fishing licenses, but this agreement was revoked last year following a decision by the Mauritanian government to ban artisanal fishing in its waters by foreigners.
